Rev. E Jennings Tyson is the son of the late Edward and Nellie Tyson. He attended the Oklahoma City
Public Schools, graduating from Douglass High School in 1979 and Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU), in Weatherford, Oklahoma in 1986, and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and a minor in Philosophy.
Pastor Tyson grew up in the New Hope Baptist Church and was baptized by the late Rev. John Dove Provo. Growing up in New Hope he served many ministries and in 1981 at the age of 19, he was called to the gospel ministry, licensed and preached his first sermon under the leadership of the Late Rev. Nelson Brown.
While attending SWOSU, Rev. Tyson was ordained as the Assistant to the Pastor of Bethany Baptist Church in Clinton, Oklahoma where he served faithfully for three years under the leadership of the late Pastor W.B. Mucker. While in Clinton he assisted in establishing a college and young adult ministry, increasing church attendance and assisted in rebuilding the music ministry.
In 1986, at the young age of 24, Rev. Tyson preached his first sermon as Pastor-Elect of the New Hope Baptist Church in Vernon, Texas and was installed later that year. For the next 17 years Pastor Tyson led the congregation to do great things spiritually, physically and financially. Over 275 people accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and followed Him in baptism.
In 1988, Pastor Tyson founded Mission Gospel Train Ministries, Inc. (MGTM) which continues today to air Mission Gospel Train (MGT) on radio, News Talk 1290 a.m. and on television, since 1997 which airs on the Christian Family Network (CFNT), Channels 10/24.1 Wichita Falls, TX, every first Thursday, 8:00-9:00 p.m. In 1997, he also helped establish the Texhoma Mass Choir composed of singers, musicians, songwriters, spiritual dancers and evangelism ministry of Southern Oklahoma and Northern Texas. During 2011, he expanded MGT into the Greater Oklahoma City area on KSBI Channel 52. In the latter part of 2011, Pastor Tyson further expanded MGT on KAUT Freedom 43 every Sunday morning, 6:00 a.m. — 6:30 a.m.
During the past decade Rev. Tyson has also developed an expertise in the successful delivery of non-profit community services. In 1992, he founded New Visions Economic Development Corporation (NVED) and successfully administered a $1.2 million grant from the U.S. Dept of Justice for the Weed and Seed Program. The program was designed to "weed out" criminal activities in the Vernon, Texas target area and to "seed" the area with positive drug prevention and education programs, neighborhood revitalization and improved housing. In 2011, Rev. Tyson expanded NVED to the greater metropolitan Oklahoma City area.
In January 2004, Rev. Tyson became the seventh Pastor of New Hope Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. His spirit-filled energy and vision has created a synergy within New Hope that is regenerating the congregation through sheer human will and divine grace. In the past 156 months the Lord has blessed New Hope Baptist Church spiritually, physically and financially. He is the former President of the Congress of Christian Education for the Progressive Oklahoma Baptist State Convention (POBSC). In May 2016, he was voted in as the 1st Vice President of the Progressive Oklahoma Baptist State Convention (POBSC). Pastor Tyson thanks God for the first 35 years in the Gospel Ministry, but believes the best is yet to come.
Pastor Tyson is the proud father of 20 year-old Vivian Je’Nell Tyson, a Sophomore at the University of Oklahoma located in Norman, OK.
